It's been over a month and there are changes as always around the garden. Spring is here! Peaches, plums, pears, and blueberries are all blooming. The birds have been free-ranging and enjoying the space. The raised beds are growing along. Even the fish are feeling the Spring energy.

Let me introduce you to the new flock.

A little more detail on what went into my new raised bed and how to be efficient with broadcasting seed.

Bananas take at least a year before they are ready to fruit, so making it through a winter is imperative.
I have observed that if the inner leaf(next to emerge) is undamaged then the timetable is not reset, and the banana will fruit the following year.
I have also observed that "next leaf" being forced to double over and sometimes die(or explode out the side) because of the dead tissue above it.
If the danger of frost has passed then we can help our bananas(and pretty them up) by removing the dead tissue and letting them out.

A short and sweet garden update.
October is usually the busiest month of the year here in Houston. Perfect growing temps and unlike our dry Springs there is usually moisture in the ground.

Just vlogging it up for a minute.

It's hot and dry. Life that depends on rain slows down and finds shelter from the sun. Other species rise to the heat and provide much needed shade.
Life nurtures life.
We are all connected.

The best time to plant a tree is 5 years ago.
The second best time is today!

There are many factors to consider in planting a tree and hopefully I gave you some good information to think on and enjoy.

Planting fruit trees makes me smile.

Just a garden update.
Right on the edge of the Fall nectar flow. The rains have brought up lots of Oyster mushrooms and the chicks have grown and have more space in their run.

Competition reduces awareness!

It is a universal pattern that focused competition(sending the majority of energy to one task or goal) means that less energy is available for processing (other factors in the ever changing external and internal environments).

We see it in people, but you can also see it in bees.


Anyway, clean dry frames are important for storage. I was having the bees clean some up and have noticed the positive impact of "sending them home" rather than letting them "figure it out"(that the resource has been exhausted).

The new flock has some new digs.
They are beautiful little ones that are full of adventure and play and it is fun to share them with you all.

Well a new batch of chicks are here(they've already been around for a few weeks). I just thought I would share some of the joys of childhood.

It has been a while since I shared the garden. Most things are settling down for winter and it is a good time for finishing up projects and planning for new things to come.
